VIETNAMESE AUTHORITIES TEAR DOWN CHURCH AND HOME OF PASTOR

Nov 02 2007

The Vietnamese authorities have torn down part of a Mennonite church and the family home of a jailed pastor.

They used sledgehammers and saws to pull down part of the church - and along with it the home of Pastor Nguyen Hong Quang, who is serving a three-year sentence. The move is part of their continuing clampdown against the Mennonite Church, which has involved arrests, imprisonment and harassment.

According to news agency Compass Direct, the authorities jammed the mobile phone of pastor’s wife Li Thi Phu Dung, who could only watch and pray with their children as their family home was demolished.
