Pakistan Christians caught in backlash against war on terror - radio report

May 21 2010

Christians in Pakistan are being caught up in the backlash against the Western war on terror. In a new radio report available from Release International Christians describe being attacked by militants after being falsely accused of deliberate blasphemy.

A mob answered a call to ‘Kill the American dogs.’ They set fire to 50 homes and burnt a family of seven alive. The Christians fear they could attack again, but say they forgive their attackers and pray for them.

PASTOR KHALIQ BARKAT
‘I pray for the Muslim attackers who destroy our houses. We cannot fight them, because Jesus said forgive your enemies. I would say to them: “Though you treat us badly, I forgive you in the name of Jesus.”’

NARR
Walter Masih, whose wife and daughter were slaughtered by the militants, echoes those words:

WALTER MASIH
‘We are the followers of Jesus. If he says forgive your enemies, then we forgive them.’

The radio report is available for download and broadcast in mp3 or wav formats, along with a cue and script. Follow the link: www.releaseinternational.org/audio
