Eritrean gospel singer Helen Berhane and her daughter Eva have arrived in Denmark where they have been granted asylum. As 7x7 has reported, Helen, now 32, was jailed in May 2004 after releasing an album of gospel music. For the next two years, she was held in appalling conditions in shipping containers and underground cells at the Mai-Serwa military camp. She was tortured several times in a bid to make her give up her faith -- but she refused. Helen, a member of the unregistered Rema Church, was finally freed in November 2006, but not before she was left crippled by a prison guard's vicious assault. Even now she cannot walk without help. Helen fled to Sudan in late 2006 and applied for asylum in Europe almost immediately.
