Release International
Day of Prayer Sept 9 to end Christian persecution in North Korea |
| Aug 31 2011 |
Release International, which serves persecuted Christians worldwide, is calling a day of prayer on September 9 for North Korea – widely regarded as the world’s worst oppressor of Christians. North Korean refugees will join a prayer vigil outside the London embassy.
Release is calling for Christians to stand with their persecuted brothers and sisters in prayer on North Korea’s National Day. It’s the latest event in Release’s continuing One Day campaign, which is pressing for freedom of worship in the land where the Bible is banned.
To date, more than 20,000 Christians have signed Release’s petition calling on North Korea to permit its citizens to practise their faith without threat of persecution.
Refugees who have fled North Korea will be among those taking part in a prayer vigil outside the country’s London embassy on September 9. Defectors tell their stories on the DVD No Other God, available from the Release website.
Release is working with partners to help and support North Korean refugees, many of whom struggle to adjust to their new life outside the hermit kingdom. Many have risked their lives to get away, running the gauntlet of border guards and people traffickers. Release is encouraging refugees in the Christian faith and providing vocational training to help get them on their feet in South Korea.
‘Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, please take time out on September 9 – North Korea’s national day – to remember those who are persecuted for their faith in the world’s most repressive nation,’ says Release CEO Andy Dipper. ‘And please sign our petition – we’ve presented 20,000 names so far, and want to keep up the pressure.’
The petition, which can be downloaded or signed online, is available at: www.releaseinternational.org/pages/take-action/current-campaign.php Release has also produced a prayer guide which can be downloaded from: www.releaseinternational.org/media/download_gallery/North-Korea-prayer-guide.pdf
